Meet the Founder

Hello READflite Express scholars! I am Dimitra J. Smith, Ph.D, the founder of the READflite Express! I am also the children’s book author of The STEAMflite Save the Day and Teele and Guba’s Exciting Escapades through STEM! I am the proud wife of an amazing husband and the mom of two incredible boys! My passion is reading and culturally responsive learning. As an educator, I have a special place in my heart for children and early learning. I understand the importance of engaging children in their own learning at an early age. My philosophy is “lay the foundation and children will soar. Join the READflite Express!

I have dedicated my career to educating students about and increasing the interest of students in STE(A)M (Science, Technology, Engineering, (Arts) and Mathematics).

All of my research and publications have led me to establish this program. This program is geared towards teaching students the importance of reading and learning more about STEAM early, so that later in life, students will make informed decisions regarding their career paths. With reading and an understanding of all of the things they can do in life, our little scholars will soar! Start them early on the READflite Express.
